‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Confirms Shooting in Seoul and Alters 72 Bus Routes in the City
[by Cho Suyoun] On March 18, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ confirmed shooting in Seoul and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). As the Seoul government also signed the paper to promise cooperation, traffic control is planned for at least 9 days and 72 Seoul bus routes are to be changed.
At the Press Center in Gwanghwamoon, Seoul, Marvel Studios and film associates in Korea hosted an official ceremony of signing the MOU. As some scenes of ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ will be taken in Seoul, Marvel Studios kindly requested for cooperative work, and the government of Seoul asked the team to depict Korea in positive ways.
On this day, Marvel’s representative lawyer David Don Gallucci, Korean Film Council’s chairman Kim Eui Seok, Vice president Kang Ki Hong from Korea Tourist Service, Seoul Film Commission’s chairperson Lee Jang ho and actress Claudia Kim, who is picked as a supporting character in the ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ participated in the ceremony.
In the revealed MOU, there are contents about cooperation for Marvel Studios, full supports in location hunting and aiding some production costs according to the incentive system.
Moreover, Marvel and associated Korean organizations both promised to allow the use of the film’s some parts in visual advertisements of Korea and publicize the film in Korea through stars’ social network services.
Marvel Studios’ vice president Mitchell Bell also attended the ceremony and said, “We are very happy to show the beauty of Korea to global audiences. There are inconvenient situations when shooting an international blockbuster film, but we kindly would like to ask for understanding and collaboration in this matter.”
“We expect to affect the film industry in Korea and create more jobs as we hires local staffs. After the opening, we believe that global film associates will show a favorable attitude toward Korea and that Korea’s tourism industry will be positively affected as well. I’m sure they will select Korea as the superb location to shoot blockbusters later on,” spoke Mitchell Bell with a confidence as a representative of Marvel Studios.
Consequently, the traffic control begins on the 30th of March and continues until April 14. The major spots that will be closed due to the shooting will be Mapo Bridge, Banpo Floating Island, Sangam-dong Digital Media City Road, Chungdam Bridge, Gangnam areas and Kaywon University of Arts & Design.
As these places are connected with 72 bus routes and have floating population, the Seoul government announced that temporary routes and stations will replace the original ones. Moreover, the government promised to minimize the inconvenience by placing fire trucks at every shooting locations.
Meanwhile, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is a sequel to ‘The Avengers’ released in 2010. Since the film is produced by the same director Joss Whedon, the casts will be the same as well except for Korean actress Claudia Kim’s join as an important supporting character.
