‘Non-Summit’ Cast Member to Participate in ‘Earth Hour’ Campaign


[by Bae Jung Yun] Cast members in JTBC’s variety program ‘Non-Summit’ will participate in turning off the non-essential lights campaign to deal with the climate change.

The campaign called ‘2016 Earth Hour’ will last for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30pm on March 19. The program’s cast members, Tyler Rasch, Guillaume Patry, Sami Rashad El-Baz, Andreas Varsakopoulos, Carlos Gorito, Przemysław Krompiec, Nikolai Johnsen and Alberto Mondi will participate in the campaign.

Eight non-summits, whom participate in ‘2016 Earth Hour’ campaign as the celebrity supporters, will have a live broadcast through ‘Non-Summit’ Facebook page and DAUM tvPot and encourage people to participate in the campaign. They will conduct a mission by walking around the shops to guide the stores to turn off the lights. Also, they will progress a quiz event about animals that are facing a crisis of extinction because of the climate change at the Megabox on March 19 at 9pm KST.

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) said, “‘Non-Summit’ is the best program to represent the fact that ‘Earth Hour’ is the global campaign. The participation is in regardless of person’s nationality. It is a common task for everyone who lives in the earth. We expect the program to effectively deliver the message.”

‘Earth Hour’ is the world’s biggest nature conservation campaign. Approximately 170 countries and more than 7,000 companies and government agencies, and hundreds of millions of people are participating in the campaign. World-wide celebrity Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, March Ruffalo, soccer player Lionel Messi, band Metallica, model Gisele Bündchen and Miranda Kerr were officially supporting the campaign. Actor Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone from the movie ‘Spider-Man’ are the honorary ambassador in Singapore. Actress and singer Li Bing Bing is the honorary ambassador in China.

The campaign, based on individual participation focuses on leading people’s participation through digital media. The mass public can also post the picture before and after turning off the light through their social media and receive the chance to get the present from corporations. They can also deliver the strong message about joining the campaign to solve climate change with their friends.

The campaign was started in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Its purpose is to deliver the message, small acts of turning off the non-essential lights for one hour per year can bring huge changes, to the mass public.
