Yuna Kim Takes 1st Place After Skating Short Program at the Sochi Olympics
[by Cho Suyoun] South Korean star Yuna Kim successfully finished her short program at the Sochi Olympics, landing on the 1st place among all skaters.
The result came out as everyone had expected. As the defending champion walked toward the center of the link in beautiful yellow dress, crowd gave big claps toward her and soon silently waited for her performance.
The song for her short program 'Send in the Clowns' spread out in the arena. Even under so much pressure, Kim finished her program almost in perfection and scored 74.92.
Unlike how critics had expected, there were two more figure skaters who received high scores close to Yuna Kim's score. Adelina otnikova from Russia scored 74.62, which is only three-tenths below Yuna's and Italian skater Carolina Kostner received 74.12, which is also less than one point below Yuna.
Since Yuna Kim only participated in four international contests after winning at the Vancouver Olympic Games and has not been so long from recovering injury, she could have felt lots of pressure participating in another Olympic Games. Nevertheless, the performance queen Yuna showed last night absolutely charmed everyone in the arena and people who watched through television.
International and Korean press soon released articles about the return of the queen. Many fellow skaters are chasing after her currently, but Yuna Kim is solely fighting against her own world record.
The 24 skaters will compete in free skating today and the grand champion will be revealed tonight at Sochi. (photo by bntnews DB)
